OLV PARISH NEWS
Help NEEDED to share the faith!! Diane Hardick is currently trying to recruit people for 3 important areas of parish life. Consider these needs, and pray over your decision if might be willing to assist. For any of the following, call Diane Hardick at 330-622-3672 for further information or to say--count me in!
1) Our RCIA Team: The time commitment is large – every week on Tuesday nights from September through April, and some weekends--but the blessings are many.
2) PSR Teacher, Assistants & Aides (teens): We need to gather the staff NOW for grades K–6 for generally weekly sessions from September through April.
3) High School PSR Team Members: We are very proud of our High School PSR program at OLV, but we need more people to keep it going well. We invite you to consider giving your help & witness as a part of the 10th Grade, or Confirmation Team for this coming year. The high school students meet one Sunday a month, plus there is one monthly planning meeting a month.
"Being Catholic in a time of Economic Downturn": Fr. John collaborated with several area parishes to try to respond to many needs of folks who are experiencing the suffering of loss of jobs, job insecurity, or lack on income. A packet of materials was prepared to give some ideas and support. Also, a survey was developed asking how the local Church might best further help those hurt by these difficulties. Packets are available in the back hallway of church to take for yourself, or someone you know. Surveys must be returned by June 28.
All EMs & Ministers to the Sick Being Re-Trained: Bishop Lennon has rewritten the guidelines of our diocese for all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Mass or as Ministers to the Sick. To assure that all EMs receive formation in the current guidelines, the diocese has asked that all who distribute communion attend a new Formation Session by the end of this year, in order to continue in this ministry. We will be recruiting NEW EMs to attend fall sessions with current ministers. We trust that our ministers will be affirmed that we have been doing a good job of reverently responding to the words of Jesus, "If you love me, Feed My Sheep."
Welcome to our New Initiates 2009: At our Easter Vigil on April 11, 2009, four adults received sacraments of initiation and were welcomed into the Catholic Church: Jim Harr, Kim Sabetta, Jennifer Smith & Kathy Smith. We also had a youth - Jacob Harr,- receive First Eucharist with his dad. See Photos
HEAR BETTER AT MASS! We invite more people from OLV who cannot hear well at Mass to use one of 6 wireless units we have available for use. OLV parishioners, Drs. Rich & Terry Reikowski donated the units. For free help to get started, give Dr. Rich a call at his office at 330-644-1932. Tell the secretary you are from OLV, and would like to talk to Dr. Rich. He`ll get back to you and try to arrange the easiest way for you to be helped to hear at Mass. His office hours are 7am-5pm Monday through Friday.
OLV PEACE Group Prays for an Orphan: Our 4th-6th Grade PEACE group has joined with The Orphan`s Prayer, an organization which works to bring assistance and prayers to meet the needs of the orphans of AIDS victims in Mexico and Central America. Our youth and their families have adopted one orphan, 11 year old Jaime Chacon. See Jaime, Pray the Prayer, & See how YOU can get involved Link to The Orphan`s Prayer Web Site
